Turning around lives one child at a time.

Truancy

If a family is referred to the Summit County Juvenile Court due to truancy from school, the family will be invited to participate in Diversion. Diversion gives families a chance to resolve their attendance issues and avoid the filing of an official case with the Court. Diversion Case Managers work with families to identify barriers to attendance and connects families with resources to eliminate these barriers. If a family chooses not to participate in Diversion or the Diversion process does not successfully resolve the truancy issue, an official case is filed with the Court.

FS (Failure to Send) cases are filed on the respective parent(s) and UN (Unruly) cases are filed on children 12 years of age or older. The cases are heard together. Truancy hearings are held via zoom. A Truancy Case Manager is assigned to each family to again assist the family in resolving the attendance issues the child is experiencing. Other needs the family may have are also considered and the family may be referred to the Family Resource Center for case management support.

The goal of truancy cases is to help families get their children attending school regularly and on-time.
