Magistrate Katherine Calla

Magistrate Katherine (Kate) Calla was born and raised in Sharon, Pennsylvania and graduated from Sharon High School in 2014. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminology and a minor in Child Maltreatment and Advocacy Studies from The Pennsylvania State University in 2018. Upon graduating, Magistrate Calla attended the University of Akron School of Law where she obtained her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, in 2021. While in law school, Magistrate Calla received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for her academic success in Contract Law, was a member of the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society, and was appointed to the editorial board of the Akron Law Review where she served as the Administrative Editor for Volume 54. Magistrate Calla was licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio in November 2021 and in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in April 2023.

Magistrate Calla has worked at the Summit County Juvenile Court under the leadership of Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio as a Judicial Attorney since January 2022. In April 2025, she was promoted to Lead Judicial Attorney at the Court. Magistrate Calla continues in her role as Lead Judicial Attorney along with her Magistrate duties.

Magistrate Calla is an active member of the Akron Bar Association where she was the former New Lawyers Section Chair and ex officio member of the Board of Directors. In 2024, she was awarded Section Chair of the Year by the Akron Bar Association for her work in revitalizing the New Lawyers Section by engaging new lawyers and law students through volunteerism, networking, and social events. She currently serves on the Membership Committee, Gala Committee, and 150th Anniversary Committee of the Akron Bar. Magistrate Calla is also an active member of the Ohio State Bar Association where she was appointed a member of the Certified Grievance Committee for the 2025-2026 term.

Magistrate Calla is a graduate of the Child & Family Leadership Exchange (Class XXVII), and the Ohio State Bar Association’s Leadership Academy (2025). She resides in Summit County, which she is proud to call home.
