The mission of the Court Appointed Special Advocate/ Guardian ad Litem (CASA/GAL) Program is to recruit, train, and support volunteers who speak up for abused, neglected and dependent children in Court. As a party in the proceedings, it is the role of the CASA/GAL child advocate to provide investigation, assessment, recommendations, monitoring, and advocacy in order to assist the Court in making decisions in the best interest of the children.

The program is funded by the Summit County Juvenile Court and with grants from the Victims of Crime Act, the State Victims Assistance Act, National CASA, local foundations, businesses, organizations and the CASA Board Volunteer Association, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization which exists to promote the program and to support volunteers in partnership with the Court.

The number of the program’s active volunteers and the number of children it services ranks as one of the highest of any CASA/GAL program in the State of Ohio as well as one of the largest in the nation.
